Services
We provide customers with a tailor-made service, helping them decide which potato varieties and sizes are right for the products they need throughout the year, whether it be for the fresh and unprocessed sector, the crisp and chip sector, or the prepared market place. We will then manage that supply chain through the year for them, from field to final use.
We work closely with growers, to select the right soil types and agronomic detail for each variety chosen. By working with seed potato breeders, we are able to introduce new varieties and ideas to our growers, which leads to the right varietal mix being grown to meet current consumer demands. We promote the health benefits of eating potatoes, we are passionate about this most versatile of vegetables and finding solutions to the modern need for convenient and flavoursome cooking solutions. Cooking and eating potatoes is great fun, and good for you!
Beesons today
Based in Norfolk, we work with growers who we have had close relationships with for many years. Through our knowledge of the market and our understanding of our customers requirements, we provide the best varieties for the end purpose, either in raw material form or washed and packed into the Beesons brand.
Beesons are able to provide their customers with a year round supply of high quality potatoes, with unmatched service and innovation, and their growers with the best outlets for their potatoes.

Since 1878
The Beeson family have been involved in the fresh produce business since 1878 and are one of the oldest surviving names in the potato industry.
George Beeson and brother Henry shipped potatoes between Antwerp and Hay’s Wharf in London during the mid 1800s. They pioneered the famous Dunbar Red Soil varieties in Scotland, and also imported fruit from the continent. One of their four sailing ships, the ‘Queen of the Belgians’, is believed to have carried the first shipment of pineapples from the Azores to this country.
George’s son, William Beeson, founded potato business W.Beeson and Sons, and Beesons and Whiskar Ltd, in 1878. The London to Glasgow train would often make unscheduled stops at Dunbar so that William could disembark to inspect his potato fields! Beesons supported the famous Frank Smith in setting up a small crisp factory in 1923 in his garage at Cricklewood and were sole suppliers to this famous crisp business for many years to come. Beesons were also amongst the first businesses marketing produce in Covent Garden Market.
The Beeson business expanded in both seed and ware potato production and marketing under the guidance of William’s grandsons Tony and Robert, as well as developing a fruit import business supplying the UK retail sector.
The family connection with, and passion for, the fresh produce industry continues today with fifth generation William Beeson.
